Background Interleukin-1RA is a member of the Interleukin-1 (IL-1) cytokine family. It inhibits the activities of of IL-1 alpha and IL-1 beta and modulates a variety of IL- 1-related immune and inflammatory responses. A polymorphism of this gene is reported to be associated with an increased risk of osteoporotic fractures and gastric cancer.
Specificity Information
Target Name Interleukin-1 receptor antagonist protein
Target ID Interleukin-1 Receptor Antagonist
Alternative Names rHuIL-1RA
Sequence Location [Isoform 1]: Secreted.; [Isoform 2]: Cytoplasm.; [Isoform 3]: Cytoplasm.; [Isoform 4]: Cytoplasm.
Sequence The sequence of the first five N-terminal amino acids is Met-Arg-Pro-Ser-Gly.
Biological Activity Interleukin-1 Receptor Antagonist
Biological Function Inhibits the activity of interleukin-1 by binding to receptor IL1R1 and preventing its association with the coreceptor IL1RAP for signaling. Has no interleukin-1 like activity. Binds functional interleukin-1 receptor IL1R1 with greater affinity than dPubMed:7775431}.
