Cell Culture Services

QED provides a wide range of cell culture services including hybridoma optimization, Mycoplasma testing, cell banking, and cell line storage: However, we also possess the knowledge and experience necessary to perform many other cell culture services and we welcome the opportunity to put that experience to work for you.

If you have a hybridoma that has diminished in levels of antibody production, no longer grows well, or if monoclonality is in question, QED’s hybridoma optimization services of re-cloning or re-fusion can establish new clones that are selected for optimal growth and maximum antibody productivity.

Mycoplasma testing can be conducted on your cell lines via PCR, and discounts are provided for 10 or more tests per year. You can send your cell lines to QED in antibiotic-free medium (3 passages are required for these tests), or QED will prepare your cells from frozen stocks in approximately one week for an additional charge.

Among our most popular offerings at QED Bioscience are our cell banking and cell line storage services. We will create 50-vial Master Cell Banks for you, guaranteed for sterility and viability, and we will send your Cell Banks to you or store them for you at QED, providing secure, off-site storage for your valuable cell lines. Cell lines are safely housed in our liquid-nitrogen freezers, and all samples remain your exclusive property, which means they will only be released with your authorization. For further information on any of our Cell Culture services, contact QED Bioscience today.

Hybridoma Optimization

Re-Cloning: If you have a hybridoma that has diminished in levels of antibody production, or if monoclonality is in question, QED will rigorously subclone hybridomas and establish new monoclonal cell lines selected for maximum antibody productivity. A small amount of antigen (~1 mg) will be required to test subclones for antibody production, or samples can be sent to you for testing in your laboratory.

Price: $2,775.00 per hybridoma

Re-Fusion: If you have a hybridoma that has diminished in levels of antibody production, or no longer grows well, QED will re-fuse hybridomas to two different myeloma cell lines and establish new monoclonal cell lines for you. A small amount of antigen (~2 mg) will be required to test a re-fusion, or samples can be sent to you for testing in your laboratory.

Hybridoma Re-Fusion: $5,580.00 per hybridoma

Re-Fusion Analysis: $3,420.00 per re-fusion

Cell Line Storage

Cell lines are maintained in the vapor phase of liquid nitrogen freezers at 150°C or lower. Freezers are located in a secure area in QED’s facility and are accessible only by authorized personnel. Cell lines submitted to QED for storage remain the property of the depositor, and they will be released only to the company or individual for whom the deposit was made unless otherwise authorized by the depositor.

Annual storage fee $17.50/vial per year
Preparation of cell lines for freezing $360.00 per cell line (up to 10 vials)
Shipment of cell lines to depositor $180.00 (international freight additional)

Mycoplasma Testing

QED will test cell lines for the presence of Mycoplasma by PCR or by direct culture with Hoechst DNA staining. You can send your cell lines to QED in antibiotic-free medium (3 passages are required for these tests), or QED will prepare your cells from frozen stocks in approximately one week for an additional charge.

PCR $250.00/cell line Results in 1 week
Preparation of cell lines $19.00/day/cell line Add approx. one week

Discounts available for 10 or more cell lines per year

Please let us know at least 24 hours in advance that you will be sending samples for Mycoplasma testing and include a completed copy of our
Cell Line Submission Form with your shipment.

Please note that we cannot accept cell lines that are known to contain retroviruses, herpesviruses, or any other non-Mycoplasma agents known to cause disease in humans.

Mycoplasma Testing Services at QED Bioscience are for research or quality control purposes only and are not intended for clinical diagnosis.

Cell Banking

Master Cell Banks of your hybridoma cell lines can be prepared at QED. We culture cell lines until sufficient cell numbers are generated, then cells are suspended in cell freezing medium and transferred to 50 cryogenic vials (at least 10 6 cells per vial). Vials of cells are taken through a careful freezing process until they are frozen in liquid nitrogen tanks. On your request, we will reconstitute two of the frozen vials and confirm cell viability. QED will ship your cell banks to you on dry ice, or we will store them for you at QED (see below). All cell lines sent to QED must be accompanied by certification that they have been tested for Mycoplasma and are negative.

Preparation of Master Cell Banks: $1000.00 per cell line

Shipment of cell lines to client: $180.00 (international freight additional)
